7th and 8th grade volleyball both won this year’s Centennial League! 7th grade played the championship against Shawnee Heights at Shawnee Heights High school, the 8th grade played Anthony at Anthony Middle School. Both teams showed their skills on Saturday, September 30th.  The current 8th volleyball team won both their 7th and 8th grade year.

7th-grader Brynn Anderson played her first year with Washburn Rural volleyball, and next year she is looking forward to, “Probably playing Shawnee Heights again because they kept getting better and better, and I think they will get better and we will probably get better, so they will be our biggest competition.”

Coach Lindstrom, the 8th grade A-team coach, shared her favorite part of coaching this team. She said, “Just the girls. Everybody was aggressive, everybody was loud, and when they were loud they were uplifting each other and picking up everybody. And everybody hit the floor, everybody swung hard, nobody played scared, and it was my favorite team I have ever coached”. Winning is one of the best feelings there is for a team. When the team won Lindstrom said she felt, I was excited for them and I was relieved. That’s always a feeling, relief. But excited for them, because they deserved it, they earned it with all their hard work, and they were really the team that everybody needed to beat this year.” Makenna Lee was on the team both years and when asked to describe this team she said, “We work together really well and everyone had a positive attitude for the most part. I feel all together we played really well”.

Congratulations to both teams!
