Ms. Winkelman, a long term substitute for Mrs. Bertels, is subbing History from April 15th to the end of the year while Bertels is on maternity leave. Winkelman likes to compare her times in middle school to our time in middle school, “I think my favorite thing is seeing what everyone in learning about now, and I like to compare it to when I was in school” Not only is Winkelman a substitute, before she subbed she went to the University of Kansas, “I worked at the University of Kansas for band but I was also a mechanic which is pretty cool.”
Ms. Brown is a new behavior technician at WRMS; she started March 18th right after Spring Break. She said, “Well I’m a behavior technician not a para.” She then proceeded with how she is new to education and was recruited by a current faculty member, “Mr. Tush found me at Dillons, I worked at the Murray’s Cheese Shop.” Although Brown struggles sometimes working as a behavior technician she enjoys it at times. “I love the kids in general, they’ve become family to me. It sucks that they’re leaving next year. I also love Jess’ pink hair” she said.
Ms. English a new substitute in the building, who is subbing for Coach C on April 16th in Gym A, WRMS. She is currently going back to school for education, where she is getting a degree in secondary education and history. English is currently subbing for Coach C. “I love subbing for P.E. it’s fun, and you get to see the playful side of students.” English says.
Ms. Simms is long term subbing for Mrs. Morairty, an ELA teacher on the 8th grade Champions team. Simms has been subbing since 2009 and has helped with almost everything. Simms says “ I have subbed for many different grade levels and concentrations, I have long-term subbed for preschool teacher, social studies teacher, and foreign languages.” Before working at WRMS, Simms was a long term substitute at Topeka West High School. Simms says, “My favorite position was long-term subbing for the leadership studies program at Topeka West High School.
Ms Craig is a new para at WRMS. Craig has a degree in early childhood education with emphasis in special education. Craig says “This is my 8th year in SPED and even though it’s hard sometimes the special moments make it worth it!” She is in a low incidence special education room as a behavioral technician. “I love working at WRMS. The community is so welcoming and encouraging, help is always around the corner and I never feel like I can go to someone when I need something.”
