There are many fun things to do, so you’re not stuck at home and bored all summer! But don’t worry, some kids around the school have shared their favorite things to do during the summer. 

  1. Hang out with friends

Hanging out with friends is extremely fun because you can always have a great time and you’re able to do a lot of fun things with them. You can go on walks, swim,and go to carnivals or festivals. You can also get a break from your family and be able to be with people your own age and talk to them about things relevant to you. Being outside can help you have more energy, give you exercise, and be more active in social activities. 

  1. Swimming

Swimming is a great option to keep you cool on those hot summer days. 8th grader Austin Girard enjoys swimming in the summertime, “The Country Club pool is my favorite pool because they don’t have many rules and I get to do what I want and it’s just a W.” Some pools in Topeka that are cheap are, Shawnee North Family Aquatic Center is $7 for 13+, Midwest Heath Aquatic Center, $7 for 13+. 

  1. Hanging outside 

Hanging outside is quite fun because you can do a lot of things outside. Such as playing sports like soccer, football, and more. You can also play in the water so you can stay cool in the hot weather. Going outside is proven to decrease levels of anxiety and lessen stress and feelings of anger. The MacLennan Park Trails are great trails to walk on, and the trails are near the Governor’s Mansion.  

  1. Go camping with friends

Going camping with your friends or family is a really fun thing to do. There are a lot of places in Topeka that are great cheap camping sites, such as Lake Shawnee Campground. It’s only $24 a night!

  1. Summer job

A summer job is a great way to make money during the summer. Doing yard work and other labor for people around your neighborhood such as mowing their grass, cutting bushes, cleaning people’s pools, babysitting, pet sitting, and walking dogs are good ways to make money during the summer. There are also places in Topeka like Chick-fil-A, Culvers, Dairy Queen, Starbucks and more that hire at 14.
