The Auburn-Washburn district has recently noticed a problem with crowded elementary and middle schools. To address this issue, the school board, along with other district administrators, decided to build a new middle school that would relieve tension in both schools. The new middle school will include 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes; along with new electives for all grades. The district has been working on the WRNMS for months, and are predicting that it will be done a few months before April, which was the original due date.
Mrs. Jones expressed her excitement for a new change of scenery, “I don’t know how much the atmosphere will change. Both buildings will continue to have amazing teachers who will make the culture and atmosphere of each building fun, exciting, and welcoming.” Many other teachers agree with Mrs. Jones’ statement, as Mrs. McDonald said, “I know that BOTH middle schools are full of educators and administrators that put students first every day. I think that each school will come with a new sense of school spirit, excitement, and determination!”
Dr. Stoltenburg mentions the challenges during the construction process, “There wasn’t any tremendous delays, I think one of the challenges is that you use different subcontractors that come in. So for example all of your concrete there’s a subtractor that has to come in. All of your duct work there’s a subcontractor, electrical work, that kind of stuff, and when you do those, periodically there have been a few situations where they haven’t been able to get some of the subcontractors out in the time that they want to, but ultimately because they do such a nice job they’ve been able to push and prod and kinda get the right things moving. So technically, the project isn’t even supposed to be done until April.”
This new addition to the Auburn-Washburn district will bring a new way of learning to young students, many students will see familiar faces from WRMS since lots of our beloved staff will transition over into the new middle school. Washburn Rural North Middle School is set to open August 2025.
