Do you like Disney movies? If you do, you might have heard about the new movie Moana 2. If you haven’t seen the movie yet and are wondering if it’s good enough to go see, luckily many students have seen the movie and are ready to share their thoughts with you.
Moana 2 was released November 27, 2024. The box office hit was released as a prequel to the beloved Disney movie Moana. Moana 2 hit $400 million at global box office, now Hollywood’s ninth biggest release of 2024 after six days. However it has been very controversial. Some people absolutely love it while others hate it.
One of the reasons why people didn’t like the movie was the songs, because the person who wrote the songs for Moana, Lin-Manuel Miranda, didn’t write them for Moana 2. While 7th grader, Kelbi Mitchell, said that she loves the songs and didn’t expect them to be that good, 8th grader Isla Darby didn’t think so. Darby said, “The chorus sucks and they sound like a four year old little boy.” 8th grader, Hadlee Hawks, also thinks that the songs were not as good as the first movie and said,“There not like actual words there just like blah blah blah.”
Now, there’s the big question: Is Moana 2 better than the first movie? 7th grader, Jesse Patterson said, “It kind of is because it goes into depth and it adds more character building and teamwork.” Now, Darby’s opinion is the complete opposite, she said, “No, Moana’s songs suck and the fire god is more entertaining than the tornado god.”
I thought that the movie was great and was just a little bit better than the first movie. I do think that the extra characters that went with Moana were unnecessary and didn’t add anything to the plot. The songs were good, but not as good as the ones in the first movie.
A lot of people liked Moana 2 as it earned an 87% for the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. While the movie is good, most believe it will never beat the original.
