There are many things you could be doing instead of being at the house during the nice weather. We interviewed some students and teachers around the building to find out what they do around Topeka.
Pickleball
The new pickleball courts have opened by the waterpark. While you’re waiting for the waterpark to open back up you can go to the new pickleball courts. Many students say it’s a good hangout spot for them and their friends. Eighth grader Kemri Madden said that it is worth going because it’s something to do besides being in the house. “Yes it is worth going. I especially like going with all my friends because it’s just something to do other than stay in the house and watch TikTok.” Seventh grader Kyndall Cochran also thinks it’s a good hangout spot with friends. “Yea it’s a good spot to go and play with friends.” Seventh grader Jack Randall specifically thinks it’s fun when you are there at night time. “It’s fun when it’s dark outside.” Either you’re just going to hangout or play pickleball, the new Archer Family Pickleball Courts are a great spring activity.
Movies and Restaurants
There are lots of fun things you can do around Topeka when hanging out with your friends if pickleball isn’t your thing. Seventh grader Kelbi Mitchell said she has never been to the pickleball courts but likes to do other things with her friends. “We go to the movies or go get food at Taco Bell.” Eighth grader Lennox Osborn said she likes to go to the mall with her friends. There is also a food court upstairs in the mall where you can have a little snack or meal with your friends or family.
Parks, Trails, Etc.
If you’re looking for more, there are many parks you can go to around Topeka like Gage Park, Crestview Park, or Lake Shawnee. Eighth grade Teacher Mrs. Gonzalez likes to take her two kids around Topeka to go do different things. “We like to take walks all around our neighborhood, we like to go to the governor mansion trails. We like to go to different playgrounds around Topeka.” Also if you’re wanting something to do that will come hand and hand with exercise and trying something new, golf is a great option for all ages. Head Boys and Girls golf coach at Washburn Rural High School, Jared Goehring, recommends Forbes Golf Course if you are trying golf for the first time. “It’s a nine hole golf course that usually is not busy. Nice putting green and driving range to practice at.” Also if you’re looking for some fun he recommends Corner 21 Sports for some putt-putt. Sports Center also provides a putt-putt course, batting cages, driving range, and go-karts for you, your family, and friends to keep you from getting bored.
These are just a few things you can do in the week or over the weekend with your friends or family around Topeka that aren’t just staying at home.
