
With the start of the 4th quarter, spring sports begin at Washburn Rural Middle School. The sports that are starting this spring are Track and field, which consists of running, jumping, and throwing events. This is joined with boys’ tennis.

One of the sports starting this quarter is track and field. Eighth grader Ryan Fullmer is a thrower for WRMS. Fullmer competed in the first track and field meet on April 8, 2025. Fullmer does shot put, discus, and long jump. Fullmer said, “I am pretty strong, so I decided to do some throwing”. At Fullmer’s first meet during the discus event, he threw 63’6”, and for shot put, he threw 27’ 0”, and for long jump, he jumped 11’8.5”.
Seventh grader Joseph Roberts is another track and field athlete. On April 8, 2025, Roberts also competed in the first meet of the season. He’s a sprinter and his events are 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, and long jump. When asked why he chose track, Joseph Roberts said, “I do track outside of school.” Roberts’s 100-meter time for the 1st track and field meet was 12.84 seconds.
The other sport that is starting this quarter is Boys’ tennis. A boys tennis player, seventh grader McClain Allison, is new to tennis this year and said he enjoys it. “I thought it would be fun, and I did not want to do track,” he said.
The next tennis meet (WRMS Invitational) is on April 29th, and the next track meet (WRMS Relays) is on May 5th.
