On May fifth, Mrs Slack, Ms. Evans, Mrs. Taylor, and Mrs. Buchanan were recognized at a ceremony to dedicate Mrs. Slack’s retirement.

Mrs. Slack, the English Language Learners teacher, has been working in the USD 437 district for 25 years, and has been teaching a total of 35 years. She will be retiring at the end of the year and has been recognized for her service in the USD 437 district. At the recent awards ceremony, Principal Haire spoke in her honor. “As you may already know, Pam’s journey in education has been nothing short of extraordinary. For over quarter of a century, she has poured her heart, soul, and formidable talent into the lives of countless students,” he said. With retirement, comes the opportunity to do things that a person could not do while working. Mrs. Slack said, “I plan to ride my bike, go to museums, relax by the ocean, and visit states I haven’t yet been to. I want to read lots of books, spend time with my grandchildren and maybe write some poetry.”

Ms. Evans, the S.W.A.T. team SFA teacher, has been teaching for 30 years. All of those years have been at WRMS. She is being recognized for her dedication to WRMS. Next year,there will be a new course replacing SFA. “I am looking forward to teaching a new course starting next year – Skills for Success. It will be similar to SFA, but will have additional content and will be taught across grades 6, 7, & 8,” said Ms. Evans.

Mrs. Taylor, the S.W.A.T. team special education teacher, was recognized for teaching 25 years in the Auburn-Washburn district at WRMS. Although, has been teaching for 33 years total. She is being recognized for her dedication to WRMS. Mrs. Taylor loves her job, working with her co-workers, and meeting new students. “I love my job, co-workers and students. I look forward to each school year and meeting another group of students,” Mrs. Taylor said.

Mrs. Buchanan, the WMRS Food Service Manager, has been in child nutrition since 2013. She was awarded the Distinguished Staff Award for all her hard work and dedication to students. Mrs. Buchanan started working in child nutrition because of her son, and she decided that she loved it. Buchanan said, “I loved to cook, enjoyed working with children, and needed a job to help with my son’s college extras. I had younger kids still in the district and couldn’t beat the fact that my schedule would coincide with theirs. Obviously, I loved it enough, I decided not to leave.”
