Recently here at WRMS, Green Club created a challenge to help promote recycling plastic and a chance to win a bench for our school. Mrs Louderback, Green Club advisor, wanted to promote recycling and show that it can go to good use. For the competition, every advisory had a challenge to collect the most pounds of plastic. Eighth grade Green Club member Griffin Ingold said, “We collect the plastic so we can get the bench and help out the school.”

The plastic challenge had two winners, one from seventh grade, and one from eighth grade. The winner of the seventh grade plastic challenge was Mr. Nedaeu‘s advisory. He said he influenced his students to recycle. “Throughout the school year, I have discussed the importance of recycling, and we have talked of what can be recycled, and what students recycle at school or at home.” He and his advisory recycled over 117 pounds of plastic, the most of any advisory. His student, Asher Williams, helped contribute plastic, with the majority of it being candy wrappers. Williams said, “It’s important to recycle and reuse plastic so animals don’t die and the environment stays healthy.”
The winner of the eighth grade plastic challenge was Mrs. Widenboch’s advisory. They collected over 24 pounds of plastic. Mrs Weidenbach said, “All the credit goes to Clara Dillion, she brought in six months worth of plastic that her family was saving!” Dillion said, “I like to help the environment. We mostly recycled food bags.”
The winners of the challenge received the G.O.A.T trophies, with a fun snack – a ring pop! The second place winners of both seventh and eighth grade each got a ring pop as well, to reward their accomplishments. In total, all the advisories combined had 300 pounds of plastic to help build a bench at WRMS and show how recycling is important.
