Have you seen US flags of teachers and students around the school? Well turns out it’s a new TikTok trend. Students are gifting these flags as a fun way to show appreciation for their beloved teachers.

Seventh grade teacher Mr. Heinritz has a flag with two seventh grade students on it, Sophie Fawl and Olivia Guccione, who gifted him the flag. Heinritz said, “I’m not on social media much so I didn’t originally realize it was a trend. I was telling my family that I received the flag and my daughter told me it was a trend. Now that I know, I like it.”
There is also a flag in the front office of all the WRMS principals Mr. Haire, Mr. Chesmore, and Mr. Dial. Mr. Haire said, “A student had it made for ‘Principal’s Day,’ it was just a fun gesture by a student
in appreciation.” Unlike the flag that was given to Mr. Heinritz, the flag in the front of the office is red and blue.

Another teacher who was gifted a flag is Champions teacher, Ms. Colwell. Ms. Colwell’s flag was given to her by Quinn Nolte and Addy Houghtaling. Ms. Colwell said that she saw a TikTok on it and thought that it would never happen to her, “The day I got the flag I had seen a TikTok beforehand about it, and was like ‘that will never happen to me.’ Later that week they brought it in, and I thought it was one of the coolest things I have received and I really love it.”
Nolte gave the flag to Ms. Colwell because she’s her favorite teacher, “She’s so fun. She always has a lot of energy, and me and Addy decided it was such a great idea to put her face on a flag and give it to her and she loved it.”
Gifting teachers a flag, is a fun and harmless way to show appreciation to teachers. “There have been so many trends that led to vandalism and disruption, it’s nice to be part of a trend that shows appreciation,” Heinritz said.
