The Chess Club is a group of 7th and 8th graders that wanted to enhance their skills in the game of chess and hangout with their friends. 8th grader, Ryan Olsen says, “I joined chess club because my friends were there and it sounded fun.” The Chess Club gets together on Thursday’s after school in Mr. McVey’s room at the high school to practice for their competitions. The team had a big win at the competition at Emporia State University. Prajeet Akula, 7th grader, says, “We achieved the win by all of us working together, and keeping the confidence up.” After achieving a big win, they were invited to the capital to hear a speech from a member of the House of Representatives. 8th grader, Manaswini Koduru says, “We just met with a guy from the House of Representatives, he gave a speech, and recognized the seniors.” For those interested in joining the Chess Club, please contact Mrs. Dowell.
